I experienced "The Peace" when I visited an Anglican church with some friends. I thought it was strange. All these people walking up to me saying "Peace" or "God's peace" or "Peace be with you." Passing the peace isn't weird, you goof! At some churches it can take up to half an hour as EVERYONE leaves their pew to greet everyone else. It's awesome..

Seriously.. it's totally okay to think people's ways and methods are strange. Especially if you're passing the peace in a room where people have been coughing and sneezing into their hands!!
I, for one, don't exactly understand Hail Marys and rosaries, but I have a theory.

Oh Steph, don't be such a hardass. The peace is an chance to reconcile with people in the church community before you humble yourself to remember God's best blessing in the Lord's supper. Sometimes rituals lose their power when they turn into rules to follow instead of memories and goals to live. When you ask the Spirit to fill you, and you approach communion (the sacrament that weaves together the "commun"ity) with the right heart, the peace can be a way to experience the Lord's supper as more than just an individual; you can truly approach the table of the Lord as a full participant in his unified church.
